Good content is at the heart of your marketing.
Because while the old method of getting business was to put together an ad and push it out in print, TV and radio, that was a passive message.
Today people are looking for engagement, which simply means they are seeking businesses that are current, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, understand what they need and can provide the answers.
You can’t demonstrate that in one ad, or even in one article. However, with a steady stream of good quality content, you can. You can build your credibility, show your expertise and even your personality.
And that’s what people are looking for. We like to work with people we like and trust but without a conversation it’s hard to figure out who that might be. That’s where your content can bridge the gap.
In addition, content gives you something to share on your social media. While it’s important not to “sell” on social media, you still want to remind people what you do for a living and how you can help them. In between your other tweets and posts, you can offer a bit of advice from a recent blog, give them a short video explaining how to do something related to your business or a podcast that lets you showcase your ideas.
All of these are gentle, non-aggressive ways to keep your skills in front of them, and the idea is, when they need that service, they’ll call you because you’ve done a great job of showing you not only know your stuff, you are interested in how you can assist them in growing their business.
In the next post, I’ll talk about some ideas for your content and how you can share that content on your social media channels.
Don’t be afraid to describe how to do things. While a few people might take your information and you never hear from them again, most people are not like that. Those who want a service usually enjoy seeing how it’s done, but they’re much too busy with their own business to try to do yours and they’ll be happy to retain you to take care of those details for them.
That’s what I do for my clients. Take care of those important aspects they don’t have time for that keep things running smoothly on their websites and in their marketing. Contact me if that sounds like something you’d be interested in.
